Thanks to aging baby boomers who have accumulated generations’ worth of stuff, the world is in the midst of the greatest wealth transfer in human history.
For the parents and grandparents, the heirlooms they bequeath hold special meaning, but too often, their children see their treasures as junk that they don’t need, have room for, or may even have to pay someone else to remove.

Funny how one article in The New York Times – “Aging Parents with Lots of Stuff, and Children who Don’t Want it” – can generate so much interest.
With 1,000 Canadians turning 65 each day for the next 20 years, there will be a lot of surplus stuff no one is going to want! What’s a Diva to do?
When this article hit the internet, we received calls asking for our comments on this rapidly escalating trend! We thought you might enjoy listening to what we had to say on the matter…

CBC Radio – “The Current” with Pia Chattopadhyay ** Diva interview begins at the 8:20 mark!
It’s all about stuff and the way three people are dealing with it:
Linda Hochstetler, a Social worker who is in the process of helping her parents downsize and possibly move to a Retirement Community.
Plum Johnson, author of the book, “They Left us Everything”, in which she chronicles the two-year task of clearing her parents home.
And me… talking about the work we have been doing for the past 16+ years — helping boomers and seniors downsize, organize and move.

ZOOMER RADIO – “Zoomer Week in Review” with Libby Znaimer ** Diva interview begins at the 10:00 mark!
The “Age Wave Tsunami” is creating an “Heirloom Avalanche”…
Libby Znaimer, a prominent journalist specializing in health, the arts, and lifestyle issues, also serves as Vice-President of News and Information for both Classical 96.3 FM and AM740.
Every Saturday and Sunday, Libby hosts “Zoomer Week in Review” – a weekly roundup of all things Zoomer, worldwide.
I was delighted to be Libby’s Guest on the September 2/3 edition of “Zoomer Week in Review” to talk about one of my favourite topics…downsizing!
Two generations are downsizing at the same time and the reality is…Zoomers and Millennials are really not all that interested in all of this surplus stuff!
Hope you enjoy these two interviews and, who knows….maybe you’ll have an “ah-ha” moment or two of your own!
Remember…it’s always a good time to LIGHTEN-UP!
